Pittsburgh Dynamo Youth
Soccer Database Status
February, 2006
Planned Updates
- Review format of data entry form to make data entry smoother
- Create help for end-user forms. Create Admin form to list steps
needed for new season maintenance.
- Need: continue to prepare database for eventual web viewing
DB change: change text to Verdana at Adel's suggestion. Make sure
that fields on all forms are not overlapping. This is more tedious
and time-consuming than it sounds, and will be done over time.
Status, Issues, Questions
Items are removed when they are no longer problems or no longer new
status, when questions are answered.
- Parent mapping
Old database had "Father" and "Mother" fields but only one address
for the player. When the second parent's address was added, the
parent fields were changed to "Parent 1" and "Parent 2" The old
address info was associated with Parent 1 ("Father"). It turns out
that most people gave the Mother's address information.
Solution: There is no solution. If we change it now, we will
mix up the information for all players registered for the fall.
The registration form identifies Parent 1 as primary player contact
and over time parents will update this info.
Changes
- February, 2006
Fix DUPE SIBLING function so default values for phone, city, zip
do not replace the older sibling's information
In the process, streamline the NEW PLAYER function.
- Improve Spring team assignment layout for Nick.
- Add some buttons to All Admin layout that were missing. The layout
is now confusing, will ask for comments before fall update.
- October, 2005
Fix age group calculation
- Make new 3-across mailing label format for different label size.
- Create new layout with email addresses for copy/paste function.
- Update Registration Form with new format from Registration Blank
Name Data Entry layout consistent with new Registration Form.
- Add new fields, and update appropriate layouts for:
Practice Day Order, Classic Player Y/N, Donation Amount, Date, History;
Volunteer Job Date, Job History.
Create script to update Volunteer Job, and Donation History
- Need: Ease of use: All Yes/No fields now clickable on or off
DB change: Change fields, change all yes-no radio buttons on forms
to be check boxes
- Need: Dana said data quality of new player records is low
DB change: make fields required (phone, primary parent
contact information, etc)
- New field for first practice day using radio buttons, keep
current multiple practice day selection for secondary dayS.
- September, 2005:
Update Registration Form and create Blank Registration Form. Change
format to Portrait, remove Emergency Contact check boxes, remove
additional request field (remains in Database), set tickmarks to be
hairline, update waiver text and donation description, update league
information and deadline date, fix typos, add note to skip parent info
on blank form for existing players or new siblings. Change directions
for entering job codes and coach and referee license/certification
info.
- July, 2005:
Combine edit and view administrative form fields. Mark layouts
that are no longer needed. Provide command buttons to view the
new data entry forms. Add parent 2 contact info and job info to
team roster for rec. Add button to re-calculate age groups.
Change database so that initial "Find" function and player edit
or entry uses the same form.
- June, 2005:
Move player info to top of registration form. Requires re-arranging
much other information. Make data entry form match the layout.
Reformat 3-label address list to fit on Dana's new labels.
- April, 2005:
Add fields for second parent's address. Add city field for primary
parent address. Rename parents "Parent 1" and "Parent 2" instead of
"Father" and "Mother." Add script to copy Parent 1 address and home
phone to parent 2. Add Mobile Phone field for both parents. Update
"Duplicate Sibling" script to include new parent contact fields.
Add job fields for parent 2. Set practice day fields to check boxes
rather than menus; we loose ordering but gain ability to have more
than two days selected. (See issues above)
Set all "city" fields to "Pittsburgh" when zip code begins with "152"
Lookup all players with other zip codes and update city. Check zip
codes and cities for players with no zip code, based on street
(most of these are not in Pittsburgh) (where possible and for
younger players whoa re still active)
Create Registration form and matching find player and data entry forms.
Include all seasons on all forms, eventually we will delete the forms
which were for specific seasons. Update actions of command buttons
as needed, remove command buttons for the season forms which are no
longer used.
