Ray's Activities and Organizations
Here are a list of organizations I participate in, and activities that I like to do.
Unfortunately, the norm is business before pleasure, so here's my list of-
Professional activities:
- The Music Educators National Conference
Get in touch with music educators all around the country! Support music education in today's schools.
- The Dalcroze Society of America.
I'm not a member yet, but then they don't have a homepage yet, either! Click for a description of what Dalcroze eurythmics is, and what it means to music education.
In July, 1996, I completed a workshop in Dalcroze eurythmics at Carnegie Mellon University, and have become fascinated with it!

And now, perhaps not more important, but argueably would get more laughs,
here is the list of my-
Recreational activies:
NOTE: Having finished my classes at CMU, my participation
in some of these activities may not be as steady as they have been,
but they're still important to me.
- "The Giants of Jazz" Jazz ensemble at Carnegie Mellon
One of the two jazz bands at CMU directed by Gary Feinberg, a great jazz trumpeter, teacher, director, musician in general, and himself a CMU alum.
Concerts are free to the public and are held at the Alumni Concert Hall on CMU's campus.
- The JCC Orchestra
This is the community orchestra of Squirrel Hill, sponsered by the Jewish Community Center. With ages of members ranging from 17 to 95, we play standard orchestral reportoire and it's a lot of fun. The director is Betsy Heath.
- Alpha Phi Omega,KAPPA chapter
This is a group of dedicated (co-ed) brothers working in the spirit of Leadership, Friendship, and Service. I am proud to be a part of this hard-working fraternity.
This is also how I first met Laura...heehee...
- The Kiltie Band
Yes, ladies and gentleman, it's the "Band Without Pants", and often without tact.
I've been a member for 6 years, and have in that time:
- Served as Vice-prez for concert season for 2 years (1990-92).
- Served as President for one year (1994-95).
- Arranged a rousing rendition of some music from Monty Python's Quest for the Holy Grail.
- Have considered, upon Rob Harris's suggestion, accepting the title of Kiltie Band Court Composer For Life, but realized that there's not enough money in it right now.
- The Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA)
A fun way to recreate the days of the middle ages. Locally, I participate with the College of Cour d'Or. (I also suggest checking out Anwen's Cour d'Or page. Cool picture!)
I enjoy participating in Cour d'Or's Dramatists' Guild, the Barony March of the Debatale Lands Choir, and the dancers' guild.
- The Ordo Templi Paisleianum (OTP)
...otherwise known as the Order of the Paisley Temple. What started as a joke has turned into a much bigger joke, providing laughter and humor for ourselves and our friends. Sense of humor required! The more warped the better!!
- Rho Mu Phi fraternity

As the OTP grew, this formed as another warped idea between Shawn and myself. This is the comedians' fraternity, to strive for humor in the university. We have letters, and boy do the colors clash....rmmph!!
