A Note about this poll: When I first started the JJ2K site years ago, someone was offended by my asking this question, saying "I realize this is a joke, but a lot of good people have died for the flag that our national anthem is about."
While I do feel sorry if someone is offended by this poll I wish you wouldn't take this kind of thing so seriously. It is not as though this poll could possibly change anything.
Besides, those men didn't die for the flag. Or at least I hope they didn't. They died for the ideals of the country it represents. In the end, the flag is just a piece of cloth. It could have a great big yellow smiley face on it that says "Have a nice Day!" and it would not change the ideals of the country. I just don't hold that flag as sacred.
Finally, I am not especially fond of The Star Spangled Banner, if simply because it is about war. I don't think a national anthem should be about war. Also, it is a really bizarre song anyway. I always sort of wondered why our national anthem isn't something like, "America the Beautiful". Y'know, something positive. Okay, I'll get down off my soapbox now :-)
I just want to know that no offense was meant by this poll. I know how sensitive people are about these kinds of things, especially at a time where patriotism is being shoveled down our throats by the media.
