Tips posted to the DJ list during the cyber retreat will find a home
here!
I'm going to put the individual tips in alphabetical order....my attempt
at being logical!

B-2, Sweet Tater Pie (from Susanne K.).
Redraft onto freezer paper and convert the 2 piece sections into 3
piece sections. Erase the corner miters. Make two 4 patch blocks
using 1/2 square triangles. Reverse the colors in the second one.
Cut out a circle from the freezer paper for the center and applique onto
of the larger 4 patch. Cut away all the "4 patch sections" from the
left over freezer paper so that you have a nice "frame". Reverse applique
this over the 4 patches. Yes, I have a diagram. Let me know
if you want it :)
B-7, World Series, works for A-3,
Hunter's Moon (from Susanne K)
You need two pieces of colored fabric and background for the
melons. Trace your design onto freezer paper. Cut out the center
star, the 4 melons and you'll have the circle in a square left
over. Iron the center star onto the right side of a piece of color fabric.
Iron the melons onto the wrong side of the background. Baste under
one edge of the melons. The other raw edges will be covered
later. Using the center star for placement, applique the melons in
place, just the inner edge.
Iron the circle in a square onto the wrong side of a 5.5" square
of color fabric. Trim out the center of the circle, baste under the
edge. Place this over the melons, applique in place.
Ta Da! No points to do, not even on the melons.
D-5, Cathedral Window (from Marsha)
I paper pieced this one in 7 sections.
1) center square with it's 2 side borders
2)& 3) the 2 remaining border pieced with corner units
4)-7) the 4 outer corner units.
Sew unit 1, add units 2&3. Add 4 corner units, admire.
F-5 Parcheesi, no melon method (from Susanne
K)
trace diagram onto freezer paper
cut out 2 "red" sections only
iron center "cross" onto back of color fabric, baste under edges.
applique onto 5 inch square of background
iron the other freezer paper template on to the back of color fabric
trim out the center, baste under edges, reverse applique over the center
or...
trace diagram onto freezer paper
Looking at the block, visualize the center circle using the outside
edges of the melons as a guide. See the circle? Cut it out of the
freezer paper, then cut out the center "cross". Forget the 4 squares
for a while. Follow direction form above, but instead reverse appliquéing
the outer red section with squares, you will just be doing a circle.
Then when all is said and done, applique the 4 squares.
You may see another variation, if so, and you like it, go for it.
J-5 John Jacob's Windmill (from Marsha)
I machine pieced, pp'd and appliqued this one.
I machine pieced the center square unit with it's background border.
Next I pp'd the wedge units to the 4 outer border units. I basted
down the curved
edge of the wedge units, before attaching them to the outer border
pieces. This leaves you with an outer border "frame", which I carefully
pinned to
the center unit, butting the curved edge of the wedges to the corners
of the center unit. Hand appliqued the frame to the center, a flat
block.
L-3, Reflections Abound (from Susanne K)
....Make 2 four patch blocks, one for the center circle and another
for the narrow ring.
Applique the center circle onto top of the larger four patch.
Reverse applique the outer "frame". Done.
L-13, Harvest Moon (from Susanne K)
Trace diagram onto freezer paper. Cut out the circle for the
center and a circle in a square for the outer section. You'll have
3 sections.
Make a 5 inch 4 patch and a 4 inch 4 patch.
Iron the narrow ring onto the back of the large 4 patch, don't baste
under the edges.
Iron the center circle to the back of the smaller 4 patch, baste under
the edge. Applique this to the larger 4 patch.
Iron the circle in a square onto a 5.5 inch piece of background fabric.
Baste under the center edge. Applique this over the 4 patch sections.
M-3, Fireweed (from Susanne K)
I paper pieced this in four sections. Quarter it right through
the center with a "cross", not an "x" and eliminate the background square
for the moment. After fpp'ing, applique onto a background square.
I'll post the diagram at my web site later today.
