Launch Report, Jan 4, '98
Greenbelt, MD
I had a lot of new rockets and the weather was beautiful,
upper 60's and dead calm.
Flights (of my rockets):
- BIT [A3-4T] ***maiden flight***
Good flight, screamed way out there! Motor ejected and nose
popped, but streamer did not leave the tube. Tumbled back fine.
- Dragonship 0.33X [A10-3T] ***maiden flight***
Another screaming, straight flight. Motor ejected, streamer
deployed correctly. No damage.
- Pegasus 1.8X [B4-4] ***maiden flight***
Good boost, moderate climb rate to about 75 feet, arced over and
dropped a few feet before ejection. Chute deployed with
recovery right beside the pad, no damage.
- Screamer 4.8X [D12-5]
I forgot to install the spacer in the mount, so the
motor slid up an extra 3/4". With the nozzle now about one body
diameter inside the rocket, thrust dropped off resulting in a bit
of a lumber. Still, a straight boost and ejection at apogee, chute
slightly melted. A hard landing on concrete dinged the tip of one
fin and scraped the top of the body tube a little bit.
