This was a special week-long FEBT Rockhill Restoration session to make headway on the paintshop floor.

Prep work begins on the paintshop floor. Flatcar 119 has already been
loaded with most of the building's contents and moved into the roundhouse.
This view looking in the south end shows the broken concrete with the loose
boards that had been used to shore up the left rail.
M-6 [2005aug6,m6]

RTY volunteers made repairs to M-6, and put it back into service after
several years of sitting in the car shop. Here it is fetching some sill
cars from the locomotive shop.
Moving Rail [2005aug6,rail]

To even out the rail sizes and transitions at the paintshop, a few pieces
of rail were needed from the pile near the coaling station. Here, the rail
is being fetched the old fashioned way.

Gravel is dumped and compacted in the unused pit. This pit is a remnant
of the previous paintshop that was sited here. That building had a
different footprint and location, and the pit was no longer centered for
the replacement structure.

The track approaching the shop is dismantled in order to both rearrange
the rails for better transitions, and to prepare the area for future work.

The area has been cleared of broken concrete, filled and leveled.

This view clearly shows the old pit which extends beyond the present building.

The new track in the paintshop is in place. The scrap rail cross ties will
support the weight stradling the pit wall, keep the gauge, build up the
rail to the proper height, and serve as rebar for the concrete (conventional
steel mesh was also added).
