This was a special FEBT Rockhill Restoration work weekend to continue the rehabilitation of caboose no. 28 in the off-season. No other work was performed.

Carefully cutting the nails so the facia can be removed from under the roofing. Unanticipated at this time was the eventual replacement of the roof anyway.

Caboose no. 28 [2004feb21,cab2] 600x408 (41k) - 1200x815 (108k)
Removing rivets so that their locations can be reused to attach the new platform steel.

Caboose no. 28 [2004feb21,cab3] 600x325 (25k) - 1200x610 (52k)
Test fitting a new window frame in the rough opening.

Caboose no. 28 [2004feb21,cab4] 600x408 (45k) - 1200x816 (117k)
Removing rivets prior to removing the old platform steel. The large hole at lower right is evidence of why these repairs were needed. The opposite end was in worse condition.

Caboose no. 28 [2004feb21,cab5] 327x480 (35k) - 614x900 (79k)
Despite the repaired car shop windows, there still was not enough light to work comfortably, so temporary lights were installed to aid the work on the platforms.

Caboose no. 28 [2004feb21,cab6] 600x412 (46k) - 1200x824 (117k)
Setting the new platform steel in place so that it can be marked for cutting.

Caboose no. 28 [2004feb21,cab7] 326x480 (37k) - 612x900 (80k)
Cutting the steps out of the new steel for the platforms.

Caboose no. 28 [2004feb21,cab8] 331x480 (37k) - 620x900 (83k)
Replacing a detriorated section of the lower nailing member.
