This was the FEBT's Spring Exploration, a guided tour of the inactive portions of the line before the brush grows up.

Pogue trestle [2004apr3,pogue] 600x405 (49k) - 1200x810 (141k)
The power company recently cleared the brush under its powerlines, affording this clear view from the west (downstream) side.

Saltillo [2004apr3,salt] 600x409 (54k) - 1200x818 (145k)
Participants stop to look at the forlorn station in Saltillo and for a brief review of its history and the operations in the small yard here.

Sideling Hill tunnel [2004apr3,sideling] 326x480 (40k) - 612x900 (101k)
The RR-north portal of Sideling Hill tunnel. It had two sets of rollup doors in place when the railroad stopped common carrier service in 1956. Both have since fallen onto the tracks.

Wray's Hill tunnel [2004apr3,wrays] 600x407 (83k) - 1200x813 (222k)
The tracks emerging from the RR-north portal of Wray's Hill tunnel. The water is drainage from the tunnel. Take a close look and you'll see that the EBT did indeed use tie plates in some places.

The Shirleysburg bridge is just south of the well-known Old Baptist Cemetary in Shirleysburg. This is the east (upstream) side of the bridge.

Shirleysburg bridge [2004apr3,shir2] 600x407 (55k) - 1200x814 (155k)
The west (downstream) side of the bridge.

Aughwick Creek bridge [2004apr3,aughwick] 326x480 (28k) - 611x900 (72k)
The concrete arch bridge over Aughwick Creek, between Mt. Union and Rockhill Furnace.

Mount Union [2004apr3,mtu] 600x408 (41k) - 1200x816 (110k)
The Mount Union enginehouse where the Mount Union Connecting RR is rebuilding its CR60 diesel switcher. EBT standard gauge no. 6, with dual couplers, is at right.
