FEBT Rockhill Restoration Session, September 27-28, 2003

These photos are presented in roughly chronological order. Person and vehicle identifications are always in the order from left to right. All photos taken with a Canon Eos RebelXS camera with either a Tamron 28-80mm lens or a Canon 75-300mm lens. Film is Kodak Gold 200 or Max 400. All photos in this section copyright 2003 by William Adams.

This weekend was billed as a "maximum effort" work session, as the FEBT bore down on several projects to have them ready for the EBT's Fall Event and the co-scheduled FEBT Fall Reunion in October.

Electrical/Brake Shop [2003sep27,elec3] 600x402 (52k) - 1200x804 (145k)
The next day, the electrical/brake shop was given its coat of red paint.

Electrical/Brake Shop [2003sep27,elec4] 600x411 (46k) - 1200x821 (138k)
All painted (pending some detailing and correction of the upper story door frame).

Track 3 [2003sep27,track1] 600x403 (54k) - 1200x806 (175k)
Track three needed the final ties inserted, then most of the length spiked. A sizable FEBT crew is at work along the track, while Rockhill Trolley Museum volunteers work on the switch for it in the distance.

Track 3 [2003sep27,track2] 600x401 (73k) - 1200x802 (228k)
Lining the inner rail and setting spikes.

Track 3 [2003sep27,track3] 600x409 (65k) - 1200x818 (202k)
Spiking of both rails gets underway with the help of the EBT's spiker and M7 as air supply.

Track 3 [2003sep27,track4] 600x401 (36k) - 1200x802 (108k)
Easing along track three to the end of spikes before the next round of spiking.

Track 3 [2003sep27,track5] 600x404 (56k) - 1200x808 (171k)
The spiking continues.

Track 3 [2003sep27,track6] 600x400 (60k) - 1200x800 (169k)
Yet more spiking.

Track 3 [2003sep27,track7] 600x406 (43k) - 1200x811 (122k)
The track gang has made it as far north as the car shop.

Masonry Repairs [2003sep27,brick1] 600x402 (54k) - 1200x804 (162k)
The masonry repairs continue above the window.

Masonry Repairs [2003sep27,brick2] 600x403 (53k) - 1200x806 (160k)
The scope of the external masonry repairs can be seen here. Repairs were also made (and will continue to be made) to the interior side of the wall.

Track 3 [2003sep27,track8] 600x403 (46k) - 1200x805 (140k)
Spiking beside the car shop.

Track 3 [2003sep27,track9] 600x400 (45k) - 1200x800 (136k)
Spiking beside the car shop.

Track 3 [2003sep27,track10] 600x408 (61k) - 1200x815 (169k)
Sometimes the spike maul is needed for particularly stubborn spikes.

Track 3 [2003sep27,track11] 600x409 (58k) - 1200x817 (160k)
Getting close. The wood scrap sticking up marks the limit of spiking done during the first August work session, heading south from Meadow St.

Track 3 [2003sep27,track12] 600x412 (62k) - 1200x824 (171k)
Five FEBT projects in one shot, the car shop windows, car shop north wall, boiler house masonry, boiler house roof, and track three.

Track 3 [2003sep27,track13] 600x410 (52k) - 1200x819 (148k)
A slight wider view.

Track 3 [2003sep27,track14] 600x407 (60k) - 1200x813 (160k)
The last spike has been driven. More work remains to be done, but the track is supported, in gauge, and suitable for light service.

Title [2003sep27,switch] 329x480 (51k) - 616x900 (144k)
The mechanism for the switch between track three and the carbarn lead has been rebuilt and restored to smooth operation by the volunteers from the Rockhill Trolley Museum. A challenging task as trains had to be kept running on the foreground track.
