#16 [2001oct5,161] 600x405 (41k) - 1200x810 (121k)
The EBT employees brought out locomotive number 16 for this year's Spectacular. It was put on static display for the weekend, and it's lights lit from external power.

#16 [2001oct5,162] 600x409 (52k) - 1200x818 (147k)
Number 16 looks convincing on the front of a string of coal cars.

#16 [2001oct5,163] 322x480 (26k) - 604x900 (62k)
Matt Stolzenfels and I again teamed up on most of these night shots.

#16 [2001oct5,164] 600x402 (23k)
Getting a tad artsy.

#16 [2001oct5,165] 325x480 (30k) - 609x900 (67k)
That numberplate sure looks shiny!

#16 [2001oct5,166] 600x406 (43k) - 1200x811 (123k)
The headlight on #16 doesn't appear stock, it has a very wide and bright beam, but it does light up the track well!

#16 [2001oct5,167] 600x405 (55k) - 1200x810 (143k)
With some flashing on the locomotive.

Night Hopper [2001oct5,nighthop] 600x406 (44k) - 1200x812 (116k)
The side discharge hopper and comapny in the Rockhill yard. This is about a two minute exposure. This is a dual self-protrait, Matt's sillhouetted against the hopper, and I'm sillhouetted against the car shop between te hoppers. We'll get the hang of flashing eventually!

Caboose #27 [2001oct5,nightcab] 600x409 (41k) - 1200x817 (119k)
Ambient light on caboose #27 by the boiler room.

Night Shops [2001oct5,nightshops] 322x480 (29k) - 603x900 (72k)
The picnic train by the boiler room. The building and caboose #28 beside it were flashed.

Night Station [2001oct5,nightstation] 600x404 (29k)
An ambient light shot of Orbisonia station.

M1 [2001oct5,m11] 600x403 (46k) - 1200x805 (125k)
A front quarter view of the M1. An beloved, irreplaceable, and home-built relic, the M1 only sees scheduled service during the Spectacular each year.

M1 [2001oct5,m12] 317x480 (25k) - 594x900 (58k)
Head-on view of the M1 gas-electric.

Rockhill Yard [2001oct5,rockhill] 600x403 (48k) - 1200x805 (126k)
A daytime counterpart shot to the night shot above of Rockhill yard.

All Aboard [2001oct5,boarding] 600x403 (52k)
The crowds were pretty good this year by my reckoning.

Hoppers [2001oct5,rustyhop] 318x480 (34k) - 596x900 (81k)
Getting artsy in Rockhill yard again!

Boxcar [2001oct5,box] 600x401 (53k) - 1200x802 (137k)
A disused boxcar in Rockhill. Can you spot locomotive #17?

Turning Around [2001oct5,wye] 600x400 (57k) - 1200x799 (161k)
The picnic train heads down the main toward the station, while the passenger train backs around the wye to get ready for another run.

EBT Transit #9 [2001oct5,bus1] 600x404 (50k) - 1200x808 (129k)
This privately owned bus is a recreation of EBT's own bus #9.

EBT Transit #9 [2001oct5,bus2] 600x400 (56k) - 1200x799 (146k)
The bus is a matching vintage vehicle, restored to mimic EBT bus #9 which no longer exists.

M7 and Hoppers [2001oct5,m7hop] 600x397 (51k) - 1200x793 (140k)
M7 sits with the remaining restored hoppers.

Night Train [2001oct5,nighttrain] 600x398 (35k) - 1200x795 (97k)
The view from the picnic night train. Thankfully this year it did not rain on the night trains.

Platform Ends [2001oct5,platend] 600x399 (57k)
These are the old beams from the end platforms on Combine #??. The platforms were rebuilt prior to the Spectacular.

Meadow St. Crossing [2001oct5,17cross] 600x405 (44k) - 1200x809 (106k)
#17 crosses Meadow Street.

Saltillo [2001oct5,salt1] 600x413 (58k) - 1200x825 (164k)
The trackside of Saltillo station.

Saltillo [2001oct5,salt2] 600x399 (49k) - 1200x798 (125k)
The backside of Saltillo station.

M7 and #16 [2001oct5,16m71] 600x397 (45k) - 1200x794 (118k)
Late Sunday, time to put the locomotives away. From these daytime shots #16's original appearance can be seen, no white, yellow, or polished brass bands, just the utilitarian coal hauler basic black.

M7 and #16 [2001oct5,16m72] 600x400 (41k) - 1200x799 (106k)
M7 was purchased for just this sort of work, escorting the mikes around the railroad. M4 has been used before to move the mikes, but it has a hard time and would never have gotten #16 moved this much in short order.

M7 and #16 [2001oct5,16m73] 600x397 (43k) - 1200x794 (111k)
M7 pushes #16 across Meadow Street and back to the coaling station.

M7 on Turntable [2001oct5,m7turn] 600x408 (48k) - 1200x816 (130k)
#17 is at the far southern end of the serviceable track, and couples onto the rear of #16. M7 then runs down the turntable lead and heads for its stall in the roundhouse.

#17 Pushes #16 [2001oct5,16171] 600x405 (65k) - 1200x809 (179k)
In a sight rarely (if ever) seen, #17 nudges #16 down the turntable lead with several crew members keeping a close eye on the heavy mikes.

#17 Pushes #16 [2001oct5,16172] 600x398 (45k) - 1200x796 (124k)
#16 and #17 making their way down the turntable lead.

#17 Pushes #16 [2001oct5,16173] 600x397 (46k) - 1200x794 (123k)
#16 and #17 making their way down the turntable lead. The whispers from #16's cylinders as its pistons moved were a palpable reminder of its potential power.

#17 Pushes #16 [2001oct5,16174] 600x402 (48k) - 1200x803 (121k)
#16 is spotted on the coach track, clear of the turntable lead. #17 is then uncoupled and brought to the ash pit for servicing before retiring to the roundhouse.

Securing #16 [2001oct5,16store1] 327x480 (36k) - 613x900 (87k)
While #16 was outdoors in clear space and daylight, the shop crew removed some of the fiddly bits for safe keeping.

Securing #16 [2001oct5,16store2] 600x412 (44k)
The whistle is one of the items removed for safe keeping.
