#15 takes on water [97,15water] 600x388 (78k) - 1200x775 (273k)
#15 takes on water from the column by the coal tower. Frightened by the front-loader coaling and fire hydrant watering operation by the roundhouse Friday, I was relieved to see the coal tower and water column still in use. In fact, for a few minutes, #15 and #14 were taking on water and coal side by side.

#15 and #14 [97,1514coal] 600x411 (45k) - 1200x821 (131k)

#15 on the turntable [97,15turn] 600x393 (67k) - 1200x785 (204k)
#15 pauses on the turntable before entering the roundhouse. Most of my photos use ambient light because my flash is too weak for such a large and distant subject, and afterall, it's supposed to be a night photo so why light it up like daylight and blind everyone? However, this guy next to me had a huge honking flash, so I just kept an eye on him as he watched it recharge, and when he went back to his camera I opened up and caught his flash.

#15 on the turntable [97,15turn2] 600x404 (48k) - 1200x808 (130k)
An unexpectedly ghostly shot.

#14 winding down [97,14ash1] 600x392 (42k) - 1200x784 (135k)
#14 has her ashes cleaned before retiring for the night. Everyone was clustered on the other (floodlit) side, but I really like this shot from the dark side. I just wish I had framed it better, something I often overlook when focused in (pun intended) on the subject.

#14 winding down [97,14ash3] 600x398 (50k) - 1200x796 (158k)
Another veiw of #14 being cleaned.

#14 winding down [97,14ash2] 600x399 (40k) - 1200x798 (132k)
Yet another veiw of #14 being cleaned. I think these 3 photos of the exact same thing is a perfect example of the type of insanity that goes on at the Fall Spectacular :-)

Mt Union depot [97,mtudepot1] 600x387 (52k) - 1200x773 (185k)
This is PRR's freight depot in Mt Union, at the interchange point of the EBT and PRR. In front is the Conrail spur. The depot is in use as a senior citizens' center and looks to be in great shape, with a recently replaced/refinished roof over the shed portion. Behind is room for a curving spur along a rock retaining wall.

Mt Union Depot [97,mtudepot2] 600x389 (57k) - 1200x777 (218k)
Mt Union PRR freight depot from the back, taken from the top of the retaining wall.

#12 on Shade Gap Branch [97,12shade] 316x480 (30k) - 593x900 (153k)
Having been cut from the front of the morning's doubleheader, #12 is temporarily parked on the Shade Gap branch while the next round of trains is wyed, serviced, and sorted out. This move trapped three RTY trolleys on the branch.

The passenger station at Robertsdale with the mainline track visible just in front of it.

#1 Mine [97,1mine] 600x402 (120k)
This is what I think is the entrance to the #1 mine at Robertsdale. It's about 4ft tall.

#1 Mine Ventilator [97,blower1] 600x398 (70k) - 1200x796 (219k)
The ventilation blower house for the #1 mine at Robertsdale. The ventilation shaft runs horizontally under the left wall into the hillside. Despite causing roof and structural damage, the tree only slightly bent one stay rod between the blower's vanes.

#1 Mine Ventilator [97,blower2] 600x391 (103k)
A close-up of the blower machinery with its chain drive.

#5 Mine Hoist House [97,5hoist1] 600x396 (63k) - 1200x791 (184k)
The remains of the hoist boiler house of the #5 mine. In the foreground is what is probably the business end of a dump track

#5 Mine Hoist Cable [97,5hoist2] 314x480 (48k) - 588x900 (127k)
This is the hoist cable of the #5 mine. It now lays off the side of the slope.

Road Bridge [97,cembridge] 322x480 (64k)
This overpass allows vehicle and pedestrian access to the cemetery just south of Rockhill.

#17 Profile [97,17prof] 600x401 (39k) - 1200x801 (127k)
Profile of #17 as it pauses at Orbisonia Station for boarding.

Behind #15 at Runk Rd[97,overrunk] 325x480 (35k) - 609x900 (97k)
Yes, I did ride the EBT. Here #15 pulls the picnic train over the Runk Rd overpass. "Please keep your arms in the car while the train is in motion", but it's safer to stick out your camera than your head.

General Manager [97,gm] 600x398 (44k) - 1200x795 (128k)
The EBT's General Manager oversees switching operations at the end of the weekend as the cars are stored.

#14 at the Shops [97,14shop] 600x408 (47k) - 1200x816 (145k)

#14 Valve Gear [97,14gear] 600x316 (76k) - 1200x631 (239k)
More or less your typical valve gear (in forward position). #12 and #15 have the same type. Get a good look and then check #17's (below).

#17 Valve Gear [97,17gear2] 600x310 (72k) - 1200x620 (216k)
The rather odd but very interesting valve gear of #17 (in reverse position). #16 and #18 have the same type.

#17's Running Gear [97,17gear1] 600x398 (54k) - 1200x796 (150k)
A rear view of #17's running gear with its unusual valve gear (in forward position) that really shows off its depth.

Switching Duty [97,switch1] 600x405 (52k) - 1200x810 (143k)
Late on Sunday, the Mikes are all in the roundhouse and two brakemen tuck a cut of hoppers away for the winter with the help of M-7.

Switching [97,switch2] 600x398 (64k) - 1200x795 (199k)
A broader view of the hopper switching after the Spectacular.
